PROOF POSITIVE
Avoid violet colors when selecting PMS colors for your print job. Due to their chemical makeup, violets are more difficult to dry and have considerably more rub-off than most other PMS colors.

A Grand Opening: Celebrating Sentinel's Solar Installation

On December 21st, 2010, Sentinel Printing Company gathered together with clients, friends, and members of local government to celebrate Sentinel being the first commercial installation of solar panels within the Village of Hempstead.

Nassau County Office of Economic Development Director, Evette Beckett-Tuggle awarded Glen Boehmer, President of Sentinel, a Citation on behalf of his ideals and efforts to preserve our environment and use of Green technology. Hempstead Village Trustee, Perry Pettus presented Sentinel Printing Company with a Certificate of Recognition in honor the company’s exemplary path of excellence.

The event was highlighted with a ribbon cutting ceremony to officially open the solar installation. Throughout the event visitors had the opportunity to tour the modern print and graphics facility, as well as view online demonstrations from Charles DiStefano, Director of Alternative Energy Sources with P2P Energy Solutions (the installer of the solar project).

The More the Merrier

Two’s company and three’s a crowd, but neither are enough to wield the power necessary to get the big discounts many businesses are now offering to large groups. If there are enough of us willing to buy something, we’ll all get a better deal if we purchase together.

That’s the idea behind the new breed of group-buying websites, at least one of which may be valued at more than $1 billion.

Groupon, which traces its origins back to 2008, has a simple premise: If enough people agree to buy something, they all get a big discount. Group buying was one of the biggest web trends of 2010 and is forecast to grow even more in the New Year.

While Groupon started the mainstream trend, many other companies such as LivingSocial and BuyWithMe, have sprung up across the country and in specific regions and/or cities.

These sites have the potential to change consumer behavior and is a major win for individually owned businesses, which now have an easy avenue to attract hundreds or thousands of new customers. Depending on what restaurants offer deals, people going out for dinner will modify their plans to obtain a 50 percent discount on their bill. Memberships to clubs, like the AAA New York, have substantial savings. The same goes with other types of businesses.

For consumers, group buying is an avenue to try someplace new for half the price (most of the time). Or, if it’s a personal favorite, they can get a discount next time they are at the store.

These sites have also been very careful to add in social elements so that buyers can broadcast their purchases on Facebook and Twitter, to share the deal with friends and colleagues. Furthermore, sites offer referral bonuses, so that people are enticed to bring in new group members.

New entrants to the scene like DealPop and Wrazz are trying to carve out their niche, so consumers can expect to see a lot of news about group buying in 2011.
