Tip Of The Week

All Boxed Up?

Reuse your shipping boxes. There are lots of different ways. The easiest usually is to clean the box of old labels and patch any holes with brown tape, label with your mailing information and ship it out. For FedEx, UPS or Postal Boxes, try turning them inside out for a clean box to ship; for a step-by-step guide, go to http://www.earthshare.org/2009/01/double-duty-shipping-boxes.html

Re-purpose your old boxes. There are over a hundred and one uses for an old box. The most common are a shipping container, gift box, package stuffing or storage. However, if you let your imagination wander, a need may spark another use. Some box transformations may be: a mat for working under the car; a dollhouse, a puppet theater, or fort for your children; a sled or baseball base; a table mat for craft projects; drink coasters; drawer separators; recycling box for newspapers; or even a paint pallet or canvas. The possibilities are endless.

Lastly, if your time is too pressed for turning a box inside out or finding additional uses, try buying recycled, reused or “rescued” boxes (ie., overages from companies were slated for the garbage) from companies like http://boxcycle.com// or http://www.usedcardboardboxes.com. These companies also buy your old boxes offering a way to make some money from recycling.
